About Mostad Works

Welcome to Mostad Works! Hi, I'm Joe.

After finishing high school in North Dakota in 2001, I immediately joined the US Navy and was stationed in San Diego. After serving as a diesel mechanic in the fleet for 4 years I decided to shift careers and become a Navy SEAL. As a SEAL I completed 6 deployments to various areas around the globe and ultimately retired after 24 years at the end of 2025. I am now a full-time wood worker and specialize in custom furniture.

My woodworking journey started in 2012 after returning from an 11-month long deployment to Afghanistan. I needed a hobby that wasn’t related to the SEAL teams to allow myself to decompress. I
have always enjoyed working with my hands and problem solving. Slowly my hobby turned into a business and I’ve been very fortunate to have very loyal clients. Because I was working out of my garage, I couldn’t scale too quickly. I finally took the leap in 2022 and moved into a commercial space and that’s given me the opportunity to focus on larger pieces. My favorite part of this job is being able to solve a problem for a client. Whether you have a weird nook in your house that you can’t find something that fits or you need a piece to match the style of an heirloom piece you inherited, it’s always satisfying knowing we scratched that itch you couldn’t reach.

In the second half of 2025, I was very fortunate to be able to intern with Four Eyes Furniture out of Fullerton, CA and learned to refine my furniture design style by studying their designs and collaborating on a few of my own designs. I truly enjoy the Mid-Century Modern style of furniture but am able to create/recreate any style my customer’s demand.

We are a very small shop and that allows us to focus more attention on our clients to ensure they are getting the best value for their investments. If you like what we do and are looking for a custom piece, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You won’t regret it.
